Thought of the Day

“Great players make those around them better.“ - I hear that quote used all the time.

Does the same go for managers? Do great managers make those around them better too?

Of course, but the comparison you draw between them isn't perfect: great players help others by contributing individually on the court. Managers, on the other hand, are by definition "above the fray" of their direct reports. I would say a great manager is much harder to find than a great "player", since it takes a lot more understanding about a situation to make it better even when you're not necessarily involved day to day.
